Important Note on Gel Safety
Gel Safety: What You Need to Know
All gel nail products, regardless of the brand, carry some risk of irritation or allergic reaction. It’s important to be aware of these risks before using any gel system, including ours. Be cautious of anyone claiming that their products are risk-free or making general statements about ingredients or manufacturing locations.
At FNGA, we prioritize minimizing these risks wherever possible.
Why We Use Bis-HEMAOur FNGA range is formulated with Bis-HEMA (Bis-HEMA Polyneopentyl Glycol Adipat) rather than the more commonly used HEMA (2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate). Bis-HEMA has a larger, more complex molecular structure, making it less likely to penetrate the skin and cause adverse reactions. Additionally, its lower vapour pressure reduces the risk of inhalation exposure.
While Bis-HEMA may be considered a safer alternative, it is important to remember that “HEMA-free” does not mean “risk-free.” Some individuals may react to HEMA but not to Bis-HEMA, although this is not guaranteed.
Products Containing HEMA
We also carry products that contain HEMA, such as those from Kodi Ukraine. HEMA is not inherently harmful, but we only stock products with HEMA levels below 30%, the generally accepted maximum according to authorities like the EU Commission.
To reduce the risk of adverse reactions, follow these guidelines:
1. Avoid Skin Contact: Apply gel only to the nail bed. A good tip is to leave a 1mm gap all around your cuticle. This not only keeps gel off the skin, but can provide a more clean and professional looking manicure. If you struggle with precise application, it may be better to practice with regular nail polish until you perfect your technique.
2. Ensure Proper Curing: Use thin layers of gel and cure each layer for the full recommended time. Make sure your lamp is compatible with your gel system, and remember to replace the lamp periodically.
3. Work in a Ventilated Area: When filing off gel, use a dust extractor and wear a mask to reduce inhalation risks.
4. Respond to Reactions Promptly: If you experience any signs of irritation—such as pain, itching, or heat—remove the product immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
Prevention is KeyGel allergies can be serious and permanent. Taking proper precautions is the best way to stay safe and enjoy your gel nail experience.
